Business Networking in Ft Lauderdale, From People Who Work Here

The Ft Lauderdale chapter is a category-exclusive business networking group that meets wed 7:30 AM. Here is what members who sell into this market already know about it.

Fort Lauderdale Runs on Water, Courts and Construction

Three engines drive business on this side of Broward, and the chapter reflects all three. There is the marine trade along the New River and up the Intracoastal, which is a much bigger employer than visitors realize: brokers, captains, refit yards, marine finance, marine insurance, crew placement, and everyone who services a boat between charters. There is the legal and title cluster that sits around the county courthouse. And there is construction, which never really stops east of Federal Highway.

Those three worlds overlap more than you would think, and that overlap is where the referrals live. A yacht broker closing a sale needs a documentation attorney and a marine insurance agent. A condo association fixing a seawall needs an engineer, a contractor and a lawyer who has read the declaration. Members here spend less time explaining what they do and more time working out who else in the room touches the same deal.

Season Matters, and It Is Not the Season You Think

The fall boat show reorganizes the calendar for a surprising number of businesses here, not just the marine ones. Hotels, restaurants, transport, printing, staffing and security all feel it. Members who sell into that world plan their year around it, and the ones who do not still benefit from knowing when the people around them are flat out and when they have room to talk.

Ft Lauderdale Business Networking: Questions Guests Ask

Is this chapter mostly marine businesses?

No. The marine trade is well represented because it is a real part of the local economy, but the room is a normal cross section: attorneys, accountants, home services, insurance, marketing, health and wellness. You do not need to know a bow from a stern to do well here.

My office is in Miami-Dade but most of my clients are in Broward. Does that work?

It works, and several members are in exactly that position. Being in the room where your customers are is the point. Just be honest with yourself about the commute on a weekday morning, because the drive is the thing that ends most memberships.

How does the chapter handle members who travel a lot?

Talk to us before you join. Chapters are built on people showing up, so if your work takes you out of town for weeks at a time we would rather have that conversation up front than watch a seat sit empty.
