Michal Bander is a senior vice president of mortgage lending and branch manager at Guaranteed Rate. He began his career 18yrs ago as a sales assistant before moving into processing and eventually, a sales role. In his lending career, he has gained a thorough understanding of the various lending guidelines available in the market today which best equips him on how to fix certain challenges that commonly come up.

Michal, along with a co-manager, run two branches for Guaranteed Rate, as well as his own personal team. “Most originators are treating the business as just a sales job, going from transaction to transaction with no business foundation,” he says. If they take the day off so does the business. “At Guaranteed Rate, we have tons of systems, protocols and of the chart technology that allow us to attack all aspects of the business and actually scale the business so we can focus on continually growing.”

Michal prides himself on listening to clients’ needs, wants and goals. In doing so, he and his team provide a roadmap to meet them and help them get to the ultimate goal, home ownership. In addition, keeping those individuals he is serving informed and answering questions along the way is a pivotal component to keeping them comfortable throughout the process. His advisory approach to lending endears him to clients and has made his business 100% referral-based. “When people are getting a mortgage, they don’t want to be sold,” Michal says. “They want someone to advise them on what is best for their situation and why.” Being able to do that has placed his team in Scotsman Guide’s top 1% of mortgage originators nationwide for 12 consecutive years. In the past year, his team reached Guaranteed Rate’s Chairman’s Circle status, originating more than $100 million in loans. “We ended the year at $124 million,” he notes. “Our team worked tirelessly and served over 400 families.” This is an incredible accomplishment for us and I am extremely grateful to be able to serve the home buying community alongside them.
